Effect of Nutrition Awareness among Pregnant Women on Babies Birth Weight
Abstract
Maternal
nutrition during pregnancy plays a crucial role in determining the health
outcomes of both the mother and the developing fetus. Among the most
significant indicators of newborn health is birth weight, which has been
closely linked to nutritional awareness and dietary habits of expectant
mothers. Adequate nutrition not only supports fetal growth and development but
also reduces the risk of complications such as low birth weight, preterm birth,
and neonatal morbidity. Despite growing access to healthcare services, a gap
often remains in translating nutritional knowledge into daily practices,
especially in communities with limited health education infrastructure.
Understanding
the impact of nutrition awareness among pregnant women is vital for improving
perinatal outcomes. Nutrition education empowers women to make informed dietary
choices, ensuring adequate intake of key nutrients such as iron, folic acid,
calcium, and protein. These nutrients are essential for placental function,
fetal organ development, and maternal health maintenance. Moreover, increased
awareness helps mitigate common nutritional deficiencies that may contribute to
intrauterine growth restriction and low birth weight.
By
assessing pregnant women's awareness levels and correlating them with neonatal
birth weights, this research aims to highlight critical gaps and propose
strategies for enhancing maternal nutrition literacy.
