The psychological well-being of breast cancer patients

Abstract

Breast cancer is not only a biological disease but also a profound psychological and emotional journey. This journey begins at the very early stage of sensing the breast lump and continues throughout the whole investigation process. This process, often marked by uncertainty and fear, challenges patients’ sense of safety, identity, and meaning in life. Beyond the physical implications, women frequently encounter psychological barriers that extend into multiple dimensions. They are concerned for their own survival and body image, responsibility toward their families and children, and uncertainty about their future roles and contributions. These concerns are often amplified by questions about life’s meaning, personal purpose, and the way the illness reshapes their worldview. The diagnostic pathway itself, encompassing radiologic imaging, biopsies, and increasingly advanced genomic profiling, has brought both clarity and complexity. Biography

Aliaa Soliman has completed her master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Austin Peay State University in Tennessee in the United States, and her MBBCh. degree in Medicine and Master of science in Radiodiagnosis from Ain-Shams University in Egypt. Dr. Soliman has an extended clinical experience as Diagnostic Radiologist working with breast cancer patients, over a decade, in Egypt and Kuwait, and currently working as mental health counselor to provide mental and psychological support to diverse populations including oncology patients and patients with severe mental illness. She has multiple scholarly publications that focus on psychological wellbeing, community health equity, and radio-genomic profiling of cancer. Dr. Aliaa Soliman is also a member of the Alliance of Physician Certification and Advancement (APCA)- the physician-centric council spun out of the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS).
