Title: Male sexual dysfunction and quality of life (QoL)

Abstract

Erectile dysfunction (ED) and premature ejaculation (PE) are the two most common male sexual dysfunction. ED is the inability to achieve and/or maintain penile erection adequate for penetrative sex, while PE (also known as rapid ejaculation) is the persistent occurrence of ejaculation with minimal sexual stimulation before, on, or shortly after penetration and before the person and/or his partner wishes it. ED and PE have been shown to affect the quality of life (QoL), resulting in sexual intimacy withdrawal, psychosocial problems (depression, anxiety, distress, frustration, poor self-esteem), lower social and physical functioning, and reduction of work productivity. Patients and healthcare professionals may be reluctant to address sexual concerns during appointments due to time limitations, lack of knowledge from the healthcare practitioners, and shyness or embarrassment from the patient. Men and their partners must be aware and understand the condition while healthcare professionals equip necessary skills to inquire about sexual problems, give advice, and make a referral
