Title: The role of generational theory in the development of nursing research

Abstract

The evolution of the development of nursing abroad and in Russia is largely associated with the expansion of the functions of nurses, which is a response to the challenges of professional activity caused by the development of technology, the improvement of diagnostic and treatment and rehabilitation work. The research activity of nurses is an integral part of the model of a modern nurse aimed at improving the efficiency and quality of their work.
The purpose of the study: To identify the factors influencing the formation of nursing research in nurses, taking into account the theory of generations.
Materials and methods: According to a specially developed questionnaire, a survey was conducted of 486 nurses who participated in the Forums of Children's Nurses of Russia. Respondents were offered a table including 9 factors influencing participation in nursing research. The evaluation of the results was carried out using the theory of generations developed by American scientists N. Howe and V. Strauss. The theory is based on the idea that values and their similarity, not age, shape and determine a generation: 1. Baby boomer generation (1943-1963) - 56 years and older (83 people -17.1%). 2. Generation X (1963-1984) - 35-55 years (299 - 61.6%) 3. Generation millenium or Y (1984-2000) - up to 35 years t (104 - 21.3%).
Research results: Several trends attract attention. First, as the main factor influencing the inclusion of nurses in nursing research, representatives of all three generations noted the presence of persons responsible for this work in the institution. The second trend: the opportunity to participate in scientific and practical conferences, webinars; the development of leadership and communication competencies, occupy the second and third place in importance among representatives of generation Y, and the second and third place among the older generation is occupied by lack of personal time and lack of skills in conducting nursing research.
Conclusions: 1. The study of the opinion of nurses about the factors affecting adherence to research showed that the leading component is the presence in the medical organization of a person/unit in charge of this process and able to provide real help. 2. An effective way of inclusion in research is an incentive in the form of an effective contract, participation in scientific and practical conferences, the possibility of publishing the results obtained. 3. The use of generational theory makes it possible to purposefully motivate nursing staff to conduct research.
